Darra Adam Khel is on average area of poor people. In General, people are mostly relayed on income from mountains. There is little land available for cultivation and even in that most of it is without proper water supply.
The war on terror and then the rise of militancy in the Tribal Area of Pakistan strongly affected Darra Adam Khel. Many people lost their work/business. Woman whom main income source were woods from the mountains are unable to go to mountain. They cannot keep any animal as they cannot take it out to the mountains because of these mountains being with either army or with militant.
These circumstances make the situation really hard for the already poor people of the area. Afridi Welfare Trust is working for the poverty reduction in Darra Adam Khel. The main objective of this program is to help the poor to provide them with their own source of income.
Since, in providing “needy” people with income source depend totally on person own situation. It is really difficult to have one single model which can be apply to all, so decision for help is made on case to case basis.
However, before making any decision for help trust makes sure that the person is really needy. Once the trust make sure that the person “deserves” they support them with developing a source of income. This is explained further in below case study approach. For privacy reason name and location of the person are not mentioned in these case studies.
It may be noted that these loans are made from “Zakat” money. Hence, its not loan to be paid with certain percentage of “intrest rate” but instead its non-refundable small financial help with no motivation/demand of return. But of course for that money one need to be “deserving person” which again is verified by the Trust representative in that area.

As stated earlier, woman is also affected from the war and militancy in Darra Adam Khel. However, given our Tribal structure, it is not easy to provide a proper work/help to the woman of the Darra Adam Khel.
In this situation, Afridi Welfare Trust helps the poor and needy woman by providing them with Sewing Machines. During year 2011, 120 basic sewing machines were provided to the woman under this project with the total cost of Rs. 470,800. Additionally, 4 more advance sewing machines were provided to the woman who was skilled enough to use that. Afridi Welfare Trust spent Rs. 40000 for those advance sewing machines.
The main benefiters from this program are widows or that woman who is not married but still is healthy enough to use the machine productively. Again the confirmation of the deserving woman is made via the network of Afridi Welfare Trust Volunteers.
